Today, the ultra-premium Montes Purple Angel, Montes Folly and Montes Alpha M are hailed as icons. Aurelio Montes was recognized by Wine Spectator as “Leader of the Chilean wine industry”. Montes wines boast high-ratings across its portfolio, from value to premium labels.
Tasting Notes: The wine presents a deep ruby-red colour, with aromas principally of ripe fruit, such as strawberry, red plum, cherry in syrup, and a hint of dried fig. Notes from the 12 months spent in French oak barrels include vanilla, mocha, and toasted nuts, adding even more complexity. The palate is balanced, very structured, and with great body. To enjoy it even more, this wine will need some time to evolve in bottle; for now, it already shows itself to be generous, complex, and elegant.
Grape Varietal(s): Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Carmenere
Awards & Accolades (Robert Parker/ Wine Spectator/ James Suckling etc):
“The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Alpha Special Cuvee contains dashes of Syrah (10%) and Carmenere (5%), all from Marchigüe. It was aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, 1/3 of them new. Purple in hue. The nose presents ash and redcurrant notes with hints of candied blueberry against an alluring cedar backdrop. Indulgent and fairly expansive in the mouth. The fine, reactive tannins and juicy flow create a mild structure before the lengthy, fruity finish. A long-lasting, Napa-inspired Cab.” – Antonio Galloni, 93 points
