LINGUA FRANCA ESTATE PINOT NOIR 2021
Lingua Franca is the exploration of Oregon with an open mind, focused on picking fruit optimally for freshness, tension and complexity based on the varying conditions of the season and the terroir of individual vineyard blocks which are farmed by organic and regenerative farming principals. The land, the way it’s farmed and the quality of the light on east facing slopes in the Willamette Valley are what shape the wines

Established in 2012, Lingua Franca was founded by Larry Stone, a famous San Francisco Master Sommelier and Dominique Lafon, an iconic producer of Burgundy. Lingua Franca – which translates to “honest tongue” – is inspired by a desire for transparency in winemaking and purity in the vineyard. Larry Stone found exactly this in the extraordinary vineyard site in the Eola-Amity Hills of the Willamette Valley. All work is guided by respect for the environment by following sustainable farming practices.

Tasting Notes:
This Estate Pinot 2021 has a large proportion of fruit from some of our finest sites, 48% coming from Blocks 1 3, planted with PN777 clone. Another 44% is sourced from two blocks of the bold PN 115. The elegant and nuanced PN777 Pinot Noir grown on Gelderman Jory soils creates the top notes of mineral, rose petal and savory elements while the PN115 provides the fruit, body andweight of the wine. Lingua Franca Estate Pinot Noir enters with red fruits of raspberry and pomegranate, juicy red cherry, and has moderate, round tannins that provide structure. The finish is medium long and mineral with a discernable salinity.

Awards & Accolades (Robert Parker/ Wine Spectator/ James Suckling etc):

Top 100 Wines by Wine Spectator (2017)

“The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate slowly evolves in the glass: a gorgeous magenta with a complex blend of wild strawberries, raspberries, rosemary, sage and crushed rocks create a seductive bouquet. This balances silky, refined textures with crisp wild berries and tactile mineral tones, all guided by brisk acidity. Violet inner florals resonate throughout as the 2021 finishes grippy, long and wonderfully balanced, leaving a primary concentration and edgy tannins.” – Antonio Galloni, 94 points

“The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate sees 25% new oak, with 25% whole cluster inclusion, and pours a jeweled ruby hue. Super expressive on the nose, with notes of framboise, wild herbs, rosemary, and dusty earth, the palate takes on more iron richness in its texture and profile, with ripe fruit and tannins and an even spine of acidity. It will do well over the next 8-10 years. It retains wonderful purity but has the stuffing to last. 1500 cases produced.” – Jeb Dunnuck, 95 points
