BURGE FAMILY WINEMAKERS RESERVE DRAYCOTT SHIRAZ 2020
Why do we love this wine?
This strikes the fresh jam chord perfectly (and it's a hard chord to play); the trick is to find developed fruit flavours without falling into overly unctuous and too-ripe territory. When winemakers get it right the results are outstanding - lucky for you, this is one such wine. Spiced, herbaceous, and delivering a long fantail finish that ties the wine neatly together and has you (almost unconsciously) lifting the glass back to your lips.

Awards:
4.0 Vivino, 97 Points Patrick Eckel, 97 Points Wine Orbit, 95 Points The Wine Panel
“A wine that comes from an incredible site, is unashamedly big and lush, but generates so much nuance and interest. A feat that is even more remarkable in the challenging 2020 vintage.
There is some very serious quality oak influence to the wine, however the fruit is more than up to it, every array of spice comes to the fore on the nose but there is also plenty blackberry and plum with some bramble notes. The palate is truly expansive, but holds balance and layers of flavour whether it be fruit or oak derived, it is the interplay of fruit and oak that is the star of the show. The mid palate takes on some dark chocolate richness and a touch of liquorice. The length to finish can be measured in minutes.
A wine that won’t be to everyone’s taste, but is a quintessential example of the sheer concentration and complexity of the Barossa.” - Patrick Eckel (97 Points)
