Château Léoville Barton is the smallest portion of the great Léoville estate and has been owned by the Barton family since 1826. There is no château and the wine is made at Langoa Barton. Since Anthony Barton took over the reins from his Uncle Ronald in the mid 80s, quality has soared at Léoville Barton and the wine has gone from being a solid mid-league performing 2ème Cru Classé to one of the most exciting and scintillating wines in St. Julien.
Tasting Notes:
Dense garnet colour. Nose of black fruits, liquorice, hint of fresh hazelnuts, delicately woody. The attack is subtle and the tannins silky. The palate develops notes of black fruits, blackcurrant.
Grape Varietal(s):
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Awards & Accolades (Robert Parker/ Wine Spectator/ James Suckling etc):
“Fresh, with lively acidity adding sparkle to the mix of dark plum, blackberry and blueberry compote flavors. A solid iron spine imparts a minerally component to the finish. Features a bit of grip, so moderate cellaring is advised. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2022 through 2030. 3,750 cases made.” – Wine Spectator, 91 points
